About The Feline Hospital

The Feline Hospital, a cat-only veterinary clinic in Salem, Massachusetts, was founded in July 1984 by Dr. Kathleen Keefe Ternes.

At the time, there was only one other clinic in the state that specialized in caring for cats. Limiting patients to just cats allows Dr. Ternes to put into practice the concept that cats are not small dogs and need to be treated with exclusive care. Everything about The Feline Hospital speaks to that belief.

The hospital has a warm, home-like atmosphere and our staff is skilled in all things feline. Our exam rooms even have a little “cave” which our patients can jump into before or after their examinations.

Dr. Ternes – one of three certified feline specialists in the state of Massachusetts – and her dedicated, professional veterinary team strive to provide every cat with the healthiest, happiest and longest life possible. We treat every cat as if it were our own. We understand that caring for a cat requires a team approach. “Pediatrics with four feet” is how Dr. Ternes describes feline medicine. Therefore, client education and communication are hallmarks of the practice.

We are a comprehensive facility with both laboratory and radiology services on site and offer a full range of surgery and dental procedures.
