Surgery

The thought of having surgery performed on your cat can be a daunting one, but The Feline Hospital staff is well-trained in the art and science of surgery. While not a comprehensive list of the surgeries that Dr. Ternes can perform at The Feline Hospital, these surgeries include: 

Spays/Neuters

Perineal urethrostomy

Mass/cyst removals

Foreign body surgery

Surgeries performed at The Feline Hospital will all require a physical examination prior to scheduling a surgery. This is to ensure that the doctor feels that your pet is a good surgical candidate for the procedures that we can perform in our hospital. Certain surgeries may require a referral to a board-certified surgeon – a referral which the staff would be happy to help you facilitate if we are unable to perform the surgery here. 

As with dental cleanings, all anesthetic procedures will be preceded by preoperative bloodwork to ensure that we are providing your feline family member with the highest level of care and minimizing the risks associated with general anesthesia. The technician assisting with your pet’s surgery will be trained to monitor your pet’s vitals during the procedure and make changes to your pet’s anesthetic protocol as needed. 

Any post-operative pain or discomfort will be addressed and treated with pain medications while in hospital; you may also be sent home with a pain medication to administer.
